Teachers and Assistants
Our program is made possible by the wonderful, dedicated volunteer teachers and assistants who donate their time and talents each week to our children. All volunteers who regularly work with our children must have a background check and agree to abide by our Code of Ethics for Adults Working with Children and Youth.
Our teachers come from a number of backgrounds. Some are lifelong UUs, while others have embraced our faith more recently. All teachers are given training by the Director of Religious Education at least twice a year, and informally in meetings and workshops throughout the year.
If you would like to join our teaching team, we would love to have you! We ask that our teachers be members or friends of the congregation for at least six months before volunteering. You do not need to be a parent to teach. While it is helpful, no previous teaching experience is required – you will be given all the guidance you need. Most teachers and assistants commit to helping at least two Sundays a month, but we offer a flexible schedule that asks only that you commit to at least one Sunday per month. Teaching is a ministry that offers the opportunity for personal growth and spiritual development, as well as a way to contribute to the lives of others.
